Cloud storage and device memory

Cloud capacity keeps saved content; phone memory handles browsing. Check actual references rather than count thumbnails.

Where to check and what is counted

Settings → Storage shows current allowance, used space, and recycled content. Registered allowances follow current entitlements, not fixed guide values. Standard guest storage is 50 MiB; actual trial messages take precedence.

Saved originals, previews, thumbnails, messages, and prompts count by real content. Downloaded-original byte size need not equal account usage.

Cloud usage is more than originals

OriginalsSaved uploads and results
Viewing filesSaved previews and thumbnails
TextSaved messages and prompts
Repeated references do not duplicate originals. New derived images still use space.

Removing one location is not deleting a file

A saved image referenced several times counts its stored files once, but remains while valid content still needs it.

An active inspiration or personal material can retain an output after the source record is deleted. Check other uses.

Other sessions, independent inputs, and crop/annotation results can also retain sources. New edits save new results and required source images. Visible thumbnail count is not file retention.

Active inspiration retains its images. Source text is not counted again while valid; independently retained text uses its own space after source deletion.

Seven-day recycled content and Recently removed inspiration do not count as active member usage; other valid uses of the same image still count.

Why different deletions free different amounts

If A serves two inputs and a material, deleting one input retains A. Deleting the canvas can still retain A in materials. Only when no retained purpose remains can its file usage be released; two nodes do not mean two originals.

Regeneration, crop, and annotation produce separate result files even if they look similar. Check both creative scope and separate saved items.

ActionRemoved scopeStorage check
Delete node/card/outputConfirmed content and relevant downstream.Other nodes, sessions, inspiration, materials, or edit results may retain the file.
Delete canvas/sessionThis workspace, not the whole account.Other workspaces and saved uses stay. Removing a share entry does not delete owner content.
Delete material itemThat independently saved item.Other image references and independent items stay.
Remove inspirationIrreversible collection removal with view-only history.Original and other saved uses stay.
Delete folder/remove favorite/collapseOrganization, return link, or display. No file deletion or cloud-byte release.
Delete unused uploadExplicitly delete eligible saved images in materials.Uploaded but unsubmitted files still occupy space; closing a picker is not deletion.

Capacity checks on writes and restoration

  • Upload, new generation, deterministic edits, and restoration check current capacity, including ongoing reservations.
  • Accepted output and replies continue delivery and may exceed allowance when completed. Later writes are restricted; results are not silently discarded to fit.
  • Free deterministic edits still create files using cloud space.
  • Existing saved files normally use references; new device files need upload and validation.
  • Local images above 7 MiB request compression. Keep important device originals; declining is not successful upload.

Cloud storage is not phone RAM

Collapsing, changing card style, or clearing browser cache does not increase cloud allowance. Buying cloud storage does not add phone RAM.

Suggested cleanup order

  1. Download/back up important originals and verify readability.
  2. Inspect usage. Locate source through In use, then handle unwanted sessions, canvas records, or inspiration at their own entry.
  3. Check personal materials and other sessions, inspirations, or edit results retaining the image. Delete only genuinely unwanted items.
  4. Review Unused and Not used in creation filters for saved uploads; filters are not automatic cleanup or deletion permission.
  5. Wait for success and reread Storage. Restoration rechecks capacity. Do not permanently clear Trash just to test usage changes.
